CARLSBERG SOUTH WEST PENINSULA LEAGUE

EASTER GROUND HOP: APRIL 9TH, 10TH & 11TH 2009.

PRESS RELEASE AND INFORMATION

The Carlsberg South West Peninsula League are pleased to announce the final details, schedules, prices and information on Easters Ground-Hop Event.

The Event will run from Maundy Thursday (9th April) to Easter Saturday (11th April) with coaches and accommodation being centred in the city of Exeter.

The schedule will see 7 matches with 1 on Thursday and 3 each on both Good Friday and Easter Saturday. Coach transport will be available on both Friday and Saturday and accommodation is available for Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights and will be based at Hope Hall and Pennsylvania Court, both sites are adjacent to each other on the main campus.

The event starts with a Premier Division fixture on Maundy Thursday night (9th April) with Clyst Rovers hosting Cullompton Rangers. Although no formal transport is included to the Clyst match the ground is easily accessible by local bus and only 4 miles from Exeter. The 7.45pm kick off has also been chosen to help those travelling down for the weekend to have plenty of time to get to the game.

On Good Friday the schedule sees three games in the East Devon area with first off a trip to Axminster Town for their league game with Ottery St Mary (kick off at 11.30am), we then trek to the aptly named “Endurance Park” based at the Commando Training Centre for the Royal Marines at Lympstone for the 3.30pm kick off between the Royal Marines and Exeter Civil Service. Friday concludes with a floodlit match at 7.30pm between the hosts, Exmouth Town and visiting Alphington.

Saturday again sees three matches with the emphasis on South Devon this time as we start the day with an 11.30am kick off at Galmpton Gents who entertain near neighbours Stoke Gabriel. We then head back to Liverton United for a traditional 3pm Saturday afternoon fixture with Bovey Tracey providing the opposition before the final game of the weekend sees a 6.30pm kick off at Buckland Athletics superb Homers Heath ground, (not the same venue as when Buckland were visited on the 2002 Hop). Buckland entertain Witheridge in the weekend’s second Premier Division match.

Admission to all 7 matches plus an information pack and tickets containing directions, ground info etc is available at £25 per person. The 7 host clubs will all receive a share of this money to cover your admission to all the games.

Coach transport will be available for both Friday and Saturday at just £25 per person with pick ups and drop offs at both the University accommodation and Exeter St Davids station each day plus on the Friday evening we will also drop off at Newton Abbot railway station at 8.30pm. We are using a different coach firm this time as we aim to improve the service to the hoppers.

The accommodation is also different to previous years. The normal halls of residence on Cowley Bridge Road have been demolished as the University upgrades its stock. Instead we are based on the main campus with two types of accommodation on offer.

At Hope Hall we have a strictly limited 30 rooms of standard accommodation, these rooms have not yet been upgraded  and these will be available on a strictly first come, first served basis at the bargain price of £24 per person per night.

Next door at Pennsylvania Court we have a considerable supply of upgraded conference accommodation rooms that all feature en-suite bathrooms etc, these are available at a cost of £30 per person per night.

Both accommodation types include full breakfast served each morning prior to coach departure times.

Tickets are now on sale and will remain so until the 10th March when both the University and the Coach firm require final numbers.

To book your place please complete the attached form and send in your cheque as soon as possible. We look forward to meeting up with you all at Easter.
