15/09/06 Aussie Football News: Jack Warner writes: 'I have now visited all the clubs and grounds in the WA Premier League and as Perth is the most isolated city in the world I am stuck for new grounds to visit. Lots in the east of the country but it's $500 to fly there and a 4 hour trip. The alternative is a 3 day car drive!! Yes Australia is huge!

I was an avid 'hopper' when I lived in the UK and used to see close to a hundred games a season. I really miss the thrill of a new ground and watching lots of games. We only get a game once a week here!

I agree there are some lovely sounding names here. Lots are ethnic based such as Floreat Athena (Greek), Morley Windmills (Dutch) and clubs that changed their names were Stirling Macedonia, North Perth Croatia, Fremantle Tricolore, Perth Italia, Spearwood Dalmatinac, I could go on and on!

No such thing as a pyramid sytem in WA. Premier League and the first division and that's about it, but there is talk of having the amateur league champions being promoted to the 1st Division. We've only just started to have the team that finishes top being crowned champions too. The top 4 used to play-off to decide the Grand Champion but thankfully this has stopped (well for the time being at least).

The national league (A-League) has just started too. Perth Glory are the local team in the comp and have just signed Stan Lazaridis from Birmingham. He's put in a couple of good performances in the 2 home matches I've watched. Sydney did have Dwight Yorke playing for them last season which upped the attendances but he's now with Sunderland.

I shall endeavour to get some more pics to you and will write a bit about the local game here and ground descriptions for you. The WA Premier league is quite a low level (I'd say it equates with level 3 or 4 of the English pyramid)  but does have some good players. Dave Dugdale (ex Burscough) has joined Stirling Lions and in 9 games has netted 16 goals including 3 hat-tricks!'

06/09/06 Club News re Findern FC (Derby Senior League): Brian Buck - Paul Massey (Gen Manager of Shelton Sports) writes: 'Unfortunately, myself, my coach and reserve team manager all left Findern at the end of last season, mainly because of the ground situation. We felt that we couldn’t progress playing on a school field and it wasn’t fair being based 5 miles away from Findern village. The parting of the ways was amicable, but the team has lost a lot of players through dropping down into the Derby Senior League. I don't think that they are producing a programme, although I left all the templates with them. I am currently setting up a new team - Shelton Sports for next season 2007/08 and looking for local facilities to enable us to join the Central Midlands League. We have a nine member Management Committee, and a website, but access will be by membership only so we can control things and we will be producing a match day programme – ‘Sports Scene’. We have also affiliated to the Derbyshire County FA, so it’s all in place. However, the pitch is the critical issue and if we can’t find one to the standard we require by the end of this year, we will put things off for another season or until we find one as we don’t want to play at a lower standard than the Central Midlands. We’ll keep you up to date with developments.
