Category A - Best Ground Photo (Great Britain)

1st Whitby Town FC (Unibond League) by Paul Roth; 2nd Stourbridge (Midland Alliance) - David Norcliffe; 3rd Yoker Athletic (Scottish Juniors) – Mike Latham; 4th Coventry City (Championship) – Web Ed and 5th Forest Green Rovers (Conference) – David Norcliffe.
This year's top ground photograph comes from Whitby Town Football Club, members of the Unibond League. Paul's image, taken last December, fits the frame perfectly. The angles created by the buildings in the foreground and the row of houses in the background help to make the composition more interesting. Both lead the viewer's eye towards the brand new main stand. The towering pylon on the left contrasts with the diminutive figures warming up on the pitch to add a sense of scale and depth. The scene is typical of a cold, dank Saturday afternoon in winter. As kick-off approaches the sky above is becoming increasingly darker and the floodlights are already switched on. Thanks Paul for allowing us to share this atmospheric occasion with you!Category B - Best Ground Photo (Foreign)
1st Cairo National Stadium (Egypt) by Leo Hoenig; 2nd Hertha Berlin (Germany) - Dennis Woods; 3rd FC Brno (Czech Republic) – Dave 'DJ' Johnston; 4th FC Bex (Switzerland) – Christine Morgan and 5th Dorrien Gardens (Australia) – Jack Warner.
Leo's image taken at the African Cup of Nations Tournament earlier in the season is truly remarkable. The national stadium in Cairo represents everything you would expect to find in this grandiose Egyptian location. Viewers cannot help but marvel at the ornate decoration which spans the upper tier of this magnificent stand. Add to this the unique splendour of the Spyhinx sitting directly above the half-way line. The dominant figure appears to be guarding over proceedings on the field where the players give the composition a real sense of scale and perspective. Brilliant!!

1st Ware Town v Sporting Bengal (FACEP) by Leon Gladwell; 2nd DOVO v Sparta Nijkerk (Hoofdklasse Zaterdag B) – Leon Gladwell;
3rd ON Chenecks v Wellingborough Town 2004 (UCL1) by Paul Roth; 4th Bury Town v Hillingdon Borough (FAVSF1st Leg) – Web Ed and 5th Spartans v St.Mirren (Scottish Cup Rd 4 ) – Mike Latham
Since gaining this award last season, Leon has produced many more outstanding pictures during 2005-2006! The winning image this time comes from the FA Vase Extra Preliminary between Ware and Sporting Bengal played at Wodson Park. The action is caught perfectly on camera. The dominant player in the centre of the frame strikes an unusual pose and can be seen clearly leaping high off the ground and at full stretch. With a fast shutter speed the viewer can also observe plenty of sharp, crisp detail in the composition such as the markings on the ball; the studs on the players' boots and even the changing colour of the grass. The expressions on the faces of the onlooking midfield players also add to the charged atmosphre of the picture. A super effort Leon!
Category D - Best Landscape

1st Llandudno (Cymru Alliance) by Mike Latham; 2nd Sedbergh Wanderers (Westmorland League) – Mike Latham; 3rd Acrefair Youth (WNL/Wrexham) – Andy Sneddon; 4th Conwy United (Welsh Alliance) – David Norcliffe and 5th Newmarket Town (Eastern Counties League) – WebEd
The standard of photos in both the Landscape and the Idyllic setting categories was extremely high this year. Mike’s photo, taken at Llandudno was favourite though and caught the eye when it was sent to FGIF back in February. The quality of the picture is outstanding and helps to convey this beautiful setting found on the North Wales coastline. The colour of the sky, made up of varying shades of purple, is breath-taking and makes an immediate impression upon the viewer. The mountain range in the background helps to divide the frame with the sky at the top and the ground at the bottom of the picture. There is also a sharp contrast in light with brighter conditions appearing above the clubhouse and changing pavilion. The scene is finally complete as the viewer is reminded that a game of football is taking place in front of such a magnificent backdrop.Thanks Mike.
Category E - The Idyllic Ground

1st Bala Town (Cymru Alliance) by Mike Latham; 2nd Deeping Rangers (UCL) – Leon Gladwell; 3rd Glantraeth (Cymru Alliance) – David Norcliffe; 4th Arundel (Sussex County League) – WebEd and 5th Cwamman Institute (Welsh National League) – Barry Neighbour
Another Welsh landscape also produced the winning photo in this category. The picture also taken by Mike Latham represents a splendid example of an idyllic setting for playing football. The frame captures the location at Bala in North Wales perfectly with steep rugged backdrop and stunning forest scenary averting the viewer's gaze beyond proceedings on the pitch. The position of the ball is crucial as it provides a focus for the game, a Cymru Alliance fixture against Ruthin Town. Thanks Mike!
Category F - The Photo Opportunity

1st Southampton (Championship) by Leon Gladwell; 2nd Brighton & HA (Chamionship) – Leon Gladwell; 3rd Sunderland (The Premiership) – Mike Latham; 4th Ellistown (Leicestershire Sen Lge – WebEd and 5th Vecindario (La Liga 2B Gp 1) – Paul Roth
