ANORAK NOTES 2004-2005

29/05/05 - Barry Neighbour writes: the future of Brentford New Inn looks very bleak for next season due to the increased travelling they now have to do. Fellow league side Martin Baker Sports are also said to have folded. Other news suggests that Spennymoor United have merged with Evenwood and will play at Spennymoor next season.

22/04/05 - Ian McDonald writes: Moor Green's Moorlands home has been hit by a second fire. It was started on Wednesday afternoon and has badly damaged the clubhouse. Details still a bit skechy. Regards, Ian.

22/04/05 from Stephen Harris - My run of non-league games without a 0-0 came to an end last night at 69 games - CB Hounslow United 0-0 Hanworth Villa in the Middlesex County league.

15/04/05 from Neil Loughlin - sequence of games since a 0-0 draw came to and end at Holwell Sports v Ellistown last Tuesday, 145 games since the last one. The referee disallowed a goal in injury time as well!

12/04/05 from Stuart James - Last night's Ratby Sports versus Birstall United attendance... EIGHT! And seven of those were related to players!!!

02/04/05 from Dennis Woods - I have now gone 66 matches since my last 0-0 at SC Freiburg v SV Hamburg on 15/05/2004.  My most ever was 67.  So no doubt my next game will now end with that dreaded score line.  I'll blame you if it is.

02/04/05 - Webmaster Gary from Ampthill Town FC (SML1) writes: I would just like to say what a great website this is with some good pictures and reports. I know Leon has already been to watch the Ampthill v Biggleswade game but maybe you could come back next season when we have had the clubhouse done up and pitch re-done. And hopefully the team will have improved as well!!!

18/03/05 from Phil Hiscox - studying your site and came across your Anorak feature, have done 117 games this season, but the best scoring return has only been 8 goals, all 5-3's, on 3 occasions.

Will claim however an unbeaten return currently of 43 games without a 0-0 since 11th December, Dartington 0 Holsworthy 0. The 43 games since include 6 Football League games, but still 37 pyramid games without a 0-0 !

Surprised you don’t have a category for most games watched so far or grounds visited this season. My record so far is: Premiership = 3; Championship = 5; League One = 3; League Two = 1; Conference = 2; FA Cup = 3; Carling Cup = 1; LDV Vans = 2; Southern Leagues = 7; Screwfix Leagues = 9; County Cups = 2; FA Vase = 3; South Western = 3; Devon League = 63; Friendlies = 7 and Internationals = 1: Total = 117 to date on 43 diff grounds.

And by the way as a League Secretary I don't consider myself a "Hopper" - Anorak maybe!

23/02/05 - Hinckley United (FCN) – Rod Grubb (committee member for Nuneaton Griff) writes: Hinckley United play their final match at Middlefield Lane this Saturday (v Bradford PA) and admission is free, weather permitting of course. The following Saturday (05/03/05), they play their first at the new Marston's Stadium when Stalybridge are in town.

13/02/05 from Andy Molden - Studley Entaco v Coton Green (on 6/11/04);  1-1;  Midland Combination Football League Division Three Attendance 3 (Three), two of which were travelers (myself and the "Tram").  No proggie was issued !. Easy to get served in the bar at half-time though.

I was at Sporting BTC v BTC Southampton on 20/11/04 and all three present were travellers. They gave us a pot of tea that held five or six pints all to ourselves at half-time. BTC Southampton folded within 48 hours.

11/02/05 from Owen Coupland - tempting fate here! It is 47 games since I saw a 0-0 draw. The game was: Glapwell 0 Buxton 0 on the 9th October 2004.

10/02/05 from Dave Reed - longest run of games without a 0-0.  Last night’s result at Tunbridge Wells brought my personal run (and record) of 124 games to an end.  However, it was not a bad game with both sides having shots cleared off the line and visitors Deal hitting the post and bar.

03/02/05 - Farnborough NE (Wessex League) – Christine Morgan writes: Farnborough North End who play in Division 3 of the Sydenhams Wessex League have finally secured their ground move to the Cody Sports & Social Club in Pyestock. Their first match there is against Overton United on 12th February kick off at 2.30pm.

27/01/05 from Ian McDonald (who has offered to send FGIF a programme for review) writes: Sadly I doubt you will be receiving a Moor Green (NCN) programme in the next few weeks. On Tuesday night our main stand and changing rooms were destroyed by an arson attack. The bar, offices etc were also damaged. I will keep you posted. We have received offers from local clubs (Solihull, Worcester) to use their facilities if we need to but next few games look certain to be postponed.
